da poker: Everton have no plans to move for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud when the transfer window reopens in January, according to the Daily Star.
What’s the story?
da dobrowin: The France international was linked with the Merseyside outfit in the summer after dropping down the pecking order at the Emirates.
Last season, Giroud started just 11 Premier League games, but he publicly expressed a desire to fight for his place at Arsenal.
Everton failed to replace Romelu Lukaku, despite spending more than £100m on new signings and the lack of goals have certainly been an issue so far.
The team have scored just four goals in seven Premier League games, and while the Daily Star report that manager Ronald Koeman will consider his options in January, it is understood that Giroud will not be one of them.
Why not?
The publication does not reveal why Everton are dropping their interest, but it is a blow considering what Giroud could potentially bring.
The striker is not the most elegant on the ball, but he gets himself in the right places at the right time.
The Frenchman still managed 12 goals and three assists in the league last season, despite the fact that he was not a regular starter in Arsene Wenger’s team.
Everton are severely lacking that clinical edge and summer signing Sandro Ramirez is yet to get off the mark.
At the moment, Koeman is relying on Wayne Rooney, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and former outcast Oumar Niasse for goals, but the Toffees need a reliable and consistent goalscorer.
January is a difficult market for clubs to buy such influential players, but the manager needs to improve the attacking threat somehow.
