Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter after Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge outlined the Eagles’ plans for the January transfer window.
Bridge states that the south Londoners are targeting a ‘mobile’ centre-forward, as well as additions at right-back and left-back – there will also be an emphasis on players under the age of 23, while ‘decent funds’ will be made available to Roy Hodgson.
The Sky Sports reporter goes on to mention that Palace could spend around £25m on a striker, and have also allocated £15m to each full-back position, which could potentially see the Premier League side splash £55m in January.
Given the fact that Steve Parish has largely held a tight grip on the purse-stings since Hodgson’s arrival, allowing the former England manager to spend just less than £5m back in the summer while also handing him £9m and £11m for Alexander Sorloth and Cheikhou Kouyate respectively, this news does seem hard to believe.
However, the Eagles barely spent any of the £50m earned from the sale of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United, so Bridge’s report could also be accurate.
Having said that, a couple of Palace fans on Twitter seem slightly sceptical about the news.
This supporter said that they’ll believe it when they see it, expressing doubt over whether the south Londoners will actually be able to pull off such a busy transfer window.
Elsewhere, these three fans were also in pessimistic mood in regards to Bridge’s transfer update.
One fan named Michael went as far as saying that he’ll get Steve Parish tattooed onto his arm if Bridge’s transfer report actually ends up happening, which is a bold statement to make and one that oozes confidence on his part that these transfer ambitions will not come to fruition.
Elsewhere, another supporter named Sam simply said “no chance” when learning of Palace’s intentions this January.
The third fan in this bunch said that they would “like to be proved wrong” but still felt “sure” that no such moves will happen.
Contrastingly to the aforementioned supporters’ feelings, ‘Kev’ did not express such pessimism and simply stated that Bridge’s report is “very good to hear” – we for one hope that this fan’s optimism is rewarded with a few new signings.
Lastly, this supporter simply used the star-eyes emoji to describe how they’ll feel if this transfer report does end up coming true – it would definitely be a window to remember if Palace do end up spending that much money.
In other news, concerns over this Palace target’s potential to perform effectively in the Premier League grew after a worrying display recently…
