Speaking to ESPN Brazil earlier this year, Lucas Moura said his final season at Paris Saint-Germain under current Arsenal boss Unai Emery was “the worst seven months of my life.”
On Sunday, the Brazilian gets to show the boss that froze him out just what he’s capable of…
What happened, and what has Lucas said now?
The Brazil international scored 16 goals and recorded seven assists in the Spaniard’s first season on the touchline at the Parc des Princes, and appeared to be one of the Parisians’ best players alongside Edinson Cavani.
However, the following season, the Ligue 1 champions splashed out on Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr, and Lucas consequently found himself out of the team – he made just five appearances in the league, all from the bench, before joining Spurs in January.
Before Sunday’s hugely anticipated north London derby, the former Sao Paulo attacker told the Mirror, “I believe in my talent, in my quality. I try to show it – him (Emery) – at Spurs.
“I forget the last five or six months I had at PSG. I like to think about the four years when I was very happy there and won a lot of trophies. The last year was to learn and to grow up. Now I think I’m more experienced and stronger.”
What do his words suggest?
First and foremost, the fact that the 26-year-old mentioned that he tries to show his talent at Spurs, before pausing to also direct the claim at his former boss, reinforces the fact that the 5′ 8″ forward hasn’t received any closure from his nightmare spell in the French capital.
If he was over the debacle, surely he would’ve just left the 47-year-old coach out of the equation. However, it does appear that he is going all out to prove that he should never have been ousted from the PSG set-up, something that could prove to be Spurs’ gain, or their downfall, against the Gunners.
