While on the pitch, the City boss appeared to deliver an angry rant towards Redmond and on one occasion seemed to shove the Southampton player.
Redmond has called for calm over the incident, insisting on Twitter that Guardiola was actually being complimentary and advised him on how to improve his game.
Even so, the Football Association has asked the City manager to explain his version of events ahead of any potential disciplinary action.
Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Graham Roberts has been left fuming by the incident, mainly because he felt that the former Barcelona coach was stepping on the toes of Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino.
