da 888casino: A sky blocked by red flags. Streets filled with thousands of the Anfield faithful. A city in elation. April 2014. Liverpool.
da bet7: After a 3-2 victory at Carrow Road against struggling Norwich, and with only three games to go in the Premier League season, the title was all but in Liverpool’s hands for the first time in their history.
Six points from nine and the title was theirs. The days of former glory and 18 pre-Premier League era division one titles seemed set to return, and Steven Gerrard was finally to earn himself a much deserved winners medal.
But the class of 2014, however sensational they were, will only be remembered for one thing: letting the club’s best chance of a title in their recent history slip through their fingers.
First came Jose Mourinho, Stevie G’s infamous slip and Demba Ba, and the following week a calamitous crash and burn at Selhurst Park. And that is it. Manchester City were once again in pole position, needing a win to secure glory, and they did not slip up.
Since Luis Suarez and Co’s galavant title effort and monstrous fall from grace, Liverpool have been since unable to mount a Premier League challenge of that stature, and finished a lowly 8th this time out.
However a renaissance is upon us with Jurgen Klopp now at Anfield, and here are FIVE reasons by next season the class of 2016/17 could go on to be the best Red’s outfit to date ….
Klopp at the Helm
Now 8th place may not be so impressive, but in the short time Klopp has had at the club, the turnaround has been terrific, even at times inconsistent.
The German guided Liverpool to both a League Cup and an Europa League final in his first season, and despite not coming out on the winning side on both occasions, it is still progress. Given time, him and Liverpool will only get better.
New Boys on the Block
With Klopp comes new players. Liverpool have already signed highly rated Schalke defender Joel Matip, the Bundesliga’s most exciting young keeper Loris Karius and finally Red Star Belgrade’s Mark Grujic.
That is three players in before the Euro’s, and is a signal that Liverpool mean business next season, having secured 3 top class players already this summer.
Time of Change
The other clubs around the top half of the table are in a state of semi-turmoil.
Manchester City failed to impress this season, Chelsea had the worst campaign of their modern history and United are still in a period of transition with new manager Jose Mourinho at the helm.
Add into this mix Leicester, who are unlikely to reach the same heights as next year, an underwhelming Arsenal and a resurgent Tottenham and you have a very open title race.
Money, Money, Money
Jurgen Klopp has an alleged whopping transfer budget of £158 million to spend this summer. While he may have dipped into it already, there is still plenty – in fact well in excess of £100 million – left to spend.
With names such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mario Gotze being linked with Anfield already, expect to see a few superstar’s arrive on merseyside this window.
Coutinho is on Fire
The Red’s saving grace from last campaign and certainly their stand out performer, Phillippe Coutinho has continued his impressive form into the Copa America with Brazil.
The midfielder scored a hat-trick in his country’s 7-1 thumping of Bolivia, and has generally impressed all round.
If he keeps up this form, and of course Liverpool can hold onto him, Coutinho will be a force to be reckoned with next season and could propel Jurgen Klopp’s side to glory.
