da esport bet: Jackie McNamara has told Football Insider that he thinks Jamie Murphy could play an important role this season if the Gers qualify for the Europa League.
What’s he said?
Steven Gerrard’s men are just one step away from replicating last season’s feat of Europa League group stage qualification. A 3-1 win over Midtjylland secured a 7-3 aggregate victory and now all that stands between the Gers and European football is a play-off with Legia Warsaw.
Potential qualification to the Europa League group stage could be pivotal to the Light Blue future of Murphy, according to McNamara. The winger has been out injured for the best part of a year but isn’t far away from a return to Gerrard’s side.

The ex-Dundee United manager is hopeful that a busier schedule thanks to European football will give the 29-year-old a chance of resurrecting a once-promising career at Ibrox. Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “He was good when he first went there but he’s been unfortunate with injuries, the artificial pitch has cost him a place in the team.
“Steven’s brought in other players in that position – Jordan Jones, Sheyi Ojo, Jake Hastie – so that’s made it more difficult for him and if he has a future.
“If he has domestic and European games to feature in, he’ll (Gerrard) need a squad. If they don’t (get through) they don’t need as many players.”
He deserves a chance
Pre-injury, Murphy was one of the most productive players for the Gers, but it came at just about the worst possible time for the former Motherwell man.
A Celtic fan has claimed Celtic won’t just join the EPL in the near future but they’ll make the Top 4 as well! Watch the controversial video below…
With Gerrard in the process of assembling his first senior squad, the winger’s ACL injury didn’t give him nearly enough time to show his new boss what he’s capable of. He was coming off the back of a promising first six months at Ibrox and was well on track to nailing down a regular starting berth.
Upon his return then, it would be foolish to cast him off, knowing that pre-injury he was a match-winner.
Qualification to the Europa League would boost his chances as McNamara suggests, yet he’s shown he’s good enough that he can be challenging for a first-team role regardless.
For all involved, you hope the wide-man can make up for lost time and become a hit again, even after such a serious injury.
