It has not been the best of campaigns for Southampton this term. As it stands, they lie 18th in the table, and they have won just four of their opening 17 matches of the campaign. They have been particularly poor in defence, conceding a league high 36 goals, and they have not been much better in attack either. Whilst Danny Ings has excelled, scoring 11 goals in his first 19 games of the season, the team has managed just 18 Premier League strikes between them overall.

They have been linked with a move for Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen recently, which could be with a view to improving their poor form in front of the net. However, in what could be seen as a blow to the Saints, it looks as though he will join Leicester, at least according to The Sunday Mirror (via Leicester Mercury). He is said to be valued at £10m by the Tigers.

The 22-year-old has been in marvelous form this term. In 22 starts in the Championship, he has already managed 15 goals, and has also provided four assists to boot. He has managed an average WhoScored rating of 7.42 so far, and his versatility is something else that Hasenhuttl would have been able to put to good use. He has played at centre-forward, on the right wing, and also in attacking midfield, and he has excelled in every position.
Some people will point to Che Adams’ struggle to adapt to the top tier as a reason why Bowen would not be able to make it in the Premier League, but the likes of Charlie Austin and Danny Ings have both done well after strong seasons in the second tier. With the south-coast club struggling for goals, this could be a huge blow to Southampton in the long run. Hasenhuttl may soon be ruing his failure to capture the youngster if the Leicester link proves to be true.
