England U21 and West Brom Defender Craig Dawson, made a significant contribution to Stuart Pearce’s side at Carrow Road, scoring a penalty, in an England U21 win over Serbia on Friday night.
The defender put in an assured display as the side also managed to keep a clean sheet in the 1-0 victory.
The Former Rochdale star’s move to the Baggies in 2010 was one which represented a substantial step up in class, moving from the League Two to plying his trade in the premier league. The 22 year old now appears to be up to the challenge.
There has been a dearth of talent in the centre back area for England and it is hoped players like Dawson can shine and make the step up to the senior side in the not too distant future.
Recent England squads appear to point to a changing of the older more established names such as Gerrard, Ferdinand and Terry and shift towards the younger stars.
The centre back will be hoping to continue to be given a platform to sparkle, in particular in the 2nd leg against Serbia, where the England U21’s will be hoping to secure qualification to the European Championships this summer.
West Brom have made an encouraging start to the season, and with defenders Olsson and McCauley already earning several plaudits already too, this season holds a lot of promise for the West Midlands outfit.
Next up for the Baggies is a test of their top half credentials, against the Premier League Champions Manchester City, who finally seemed to pick up some form in a 3-0 win over Sunderland in their last fixture.
