da luck: West Ham United are lining up a move for Swedish youngster Amel Mujanic, per Aftonbladet.
The 17-year-old is currently playing for Malmo’s Under-19 side, scoring two goals in nine appearances thus far this season.
What’s the word?
Mujanic has won two caps for Sweden’s Under-16 side and 12 for the Under-17s.
The central midfielder has yet to sign a new contract at the club and is represented by former Bolton Wanderers striker Ivan Klasnic.
His agent claims via Aftonbladet that he could leave in the summer, with both the Hammers and Championship side Leeds United credited with an interest, per the aforementioned report.
“Amel thrives in Malmo and wants to fight for a place in the first team,” he said, per Aftonbladet.
“But if he does not get a chance in Malmo, we have to find another solution.
“There is interest from England and from other countries too. I have tried to contact the sports manager, Mr Andersson, but he does not answer either on the phone or on my SMS.
“It is very frustrating. I don’t know how they think about Amel.”
A needless punt
This feels like a ridiculous move from the Hammers.
They have a number of deficiencies in the first-team; they need to recruit a new first-choice striker to replace the usually injured Andy Carroll, along with a central midfielder who can ease the load on captain Mark Noble.
Recruiting Mujanic is a risk not worth taking.
The teenager has no first-team experience and there is little chance of him heading to England and making his way into the Hammers starting XI anytime soon.
Manuel Pellegrini should bow out of the bidding now and give Leeds a free run.
